Escape the Columbia

Escape the Columbia

After attempting to paint this scene in watercolor and then an oil study, I came back to the studio and painted this in a full sheet watercolor.  Sometimes I have found that if someplace keeps luring me back to the same location, then there is a painting "lurking" there somewhere.  The title, "Escape the Columbia" beckons me to go out further to the large body of water moving swiftly towards the ocean.  I can just imagine what Lewis and Clark and the Corp of Discovery may have felt moving down this beautiful, large river.  This painting was accepted by the prestigious American Watercolor Society and invited to tour with same for a year around the United States.  The painting is scheduled to be exhibited again in Richland Allied Arts Gallery in October 2017.
