What is a Giclée?

The Term: The French word, giclée, means “ink spurt”. Originating in the 1980s, the ink used is archival and is the highest quality of the reproduction process on the market today.  A "giclée print" connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas and fine art paper including Arches, William Turner, and canvas. The giclée printing process results in greater color accuracy and saturation than any other reproduction method. 

 

Our giclées can be customized to fit the space being decorated. A large giclée  will have the same resolution as a smaller one making it possible to fill a desired space. Call us for specific dimensions to confirm request. Not all dimensions are possible.  

Giclée prints can be almost indistinguishable from an original work; they maximize great art and make it accessible to a larger community of aspiring collectors and decorators.  

Giclées are more expensive to reproduce than the bulk prints made using traditional lithography and they are priced accordingly, but, it goes without saying that they aren’t as valuable as original works. Since they can be indiscernible from originals, however, they are sometimes passed off as original works and giclées are a fraction of the cost of an original painting.
